Committees
The Kwantlen Student Association has many committees that help establish our organizational and budget priorities. Most of the committees have student positions that allow interested students to fully participate in the decision-making process. The KSA is actively recruiting students to join our committees. Council is the Kwantlen Student Association’s elected board of directors. It is made up of student representatives of KPU’s physical campuses, social justice constituencies, academic faculties, and the student representatives on the KPU Senate. Council is responsible for supervising the management of the Kwantlen Student Association’s affairs, and is the highest decision-making body at the KSA.
Agendas and MinutesThe Kwantlen Student Association’s Executive Committee consists of four members (executives): the Director of Student Services, the Director of Finance, the Director of Student Life and the Director of External Affairs; all of whom are appointed by Council to coordinate the day-to-day business and operations of the KSA in between meetings of Council. It meets on a weekly basis.
Agendas and MinutesThe Kwantlen Student Association’s annual general meeting is a yearly event where all members of the student association are invited to come together and discuss important issues related to student life and governance. The meeting typically includes reports from the association’s executive members on their activities and achievements over the past year, as well as discussions and voting on proposed changes to the association’s bylaws, policies, and budget.
Agendas and MinutesThe External Affairs Committee upholds the KSA’s goals of advocacy and empowerment. The Committee creates campaigns and develops policy position. They also advise & support the VP of External in lobbying municipal, provincial, and federal governments. The Committee is a place where opportunities for further political and community engagement come.
Agendas and MinutesThe Finance & Operations Committee assists the VP of Finance & Operations with developing the budget of the Society. The Committee ensures responsible stewardship of the KSA’s resources (student fees), and to discuss and vet ideas for the financial policies and procedures of the Kwantlen Student Association. The committee also explores new ideas and proposals for the development and expansion of student services offered by the KSA.
Agendas and MinutesThe Student Life Committee work with the VP of Student Life to enhance the well being of students. The committee works to create engaging events, get the word out on all things KSA related and be a resource for clubs. In addition to that the Student Life Committee also works to enhance student life on the campuses by addressing students’ mental, physical, academic and social needs.
Agendas and MinutesThe University Affairs Committee assists the VP University Affairs in maintaining the society’s positive relationship with KPU. The University Affairs Committee provides a platform for discussion on changes, developments, or other issues relating to KPU & KSA policy affecting the society and its members, as well as providing support on academic issues.
Agendas and MinutesWhen there is a vacancy on a KSA committee it is up to the Internal Committee to fill the vacant seats. The Internal Committee discusses and deliberates applications to recommend the most suitable person for each committee. The committee provides recommendations to Council regarding key KSA positions such as the Executive Director and the Speaker of Council. All recommendations by the committee of who to appoint are sent to Council (KSA’s Board of Directors) for final approval. The committee also assists with strategic planning for the organisation.
Agendas and MinutesThe Governance Committee oversees the bylaws, regulations and structure of the KSA. The Committee reviews and may recommend changes to the bylaws and regulations of the KSA as well as create and update policies.
Agendas and MinutesThe Social Justice & Equity Committee’s purpose is to ensure that KSA is addressing the needs of minority groups on and off campus. The Committee works on addressing social justice needs by holding events and cooperating with external organizations. The Committee focuses on making the time that students attend Kwantlen be an easier one with less barriers and one that feels more welcoming.
Agendas and MinutesThe Environmental Sustainability Committee works to enhance the relationship between the KSA and external organizations relating to environmental sustainability. The Committee works to create sustainability policies and initiatives that reflect good ethical practices by the KSA. The Committee also works closely with Sustainable KSA.
